摘要

During the last decade, bioactive materials, including synthetic hydroxiapatite and bioactive glass ceramics, have been applied to repair bone defects showing promising results. The purpose of this study is to characterize the population of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), to determine its proliferation, cellular viability, and the profile of cytokines secreted by these cells, when in the presence of bioactive glass with 60% of silica (BG60S) or biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP). Our data indicate no induction of an inflammatory process when PBMC were cultured with these bioceramics, since the cell population and the profile of cytokines secreted remained similar or smaller than control.
