Reliability-Based Seismic Performance Evaluation of RC Columns

In the current seismic design, there is great necessity of developing a better method for assessing the seismic vulnerability of a structure. An important step towards reaching these goals is to define an adequate measure of the structural performance with global and local response parameters. In the Reliability-Based Seismic Design, an adequate method of the structural performance evaluation should be capable of representing various types of structural local and global damages. For these reasons, there is a renewed interest in the damage analysis. This study focuses on the quantification of the uncertainties in estimating the column capacities, the concepts, and procedures for evaluating damage indices for reinforced concrete columns with a view to assessing their seismic performance level as specified in FEMA 350 Documentation. That produces a structural performance index that is believed to be more indicative of structural damage.
