An effort to lift with just one hand, this weighty book represents extremely good value reading for those fascinated by pattern design and style. The 1500 good quality colour plates, mainly of fabrics and wallpapers, are arranged by subject (Flora, Fauna, Geometric, Pictorial and Abstract). Within each broad category there are several subdivisions (e.g. Flora contains 12 subdivisions and within each, further subdivisions are listed) so it is easy to look up a particular area of interest - e.g. Thistles - in the comprehensive contents pages. At the rear of the book, designs are also listed chronologically by date, alphabetically by designer and finally by country of origin, so the book is an easily searchable resource.
