The article provides comparison of the efficiency of using a semisynthetic sorbent based on montmorillonite and a coagulant of aluminum sulfate for removing anionic dyes having different molecular weight from water. It is shown that for the removal of anionic dyes having a relatively low molecular weight, like indigo carmine, from water it is necessary to use the adsorption method together with a semisynthetic sorbent. The method of coagulation is preferable for the removal from water of anionic dyes having a large molecular weight and propensity for association like direct blue. The paper also discusses the mechanisms of sorption of anionic dyes on a semisynthetic sorbent and particles of aluminum hydroxide. The results obtained are interesting for understanding the coagulation purification of water of fulvic and humic acids.
