Transport Geography: Reflecting on a subdiscipline and identifying future research trajectories The insularity issue in Transport Geography

Transport geography has a rich tradition of theoretical and empirical research in areas such as spatial interaction and network analysis, behavioral geography, and historical-cultural studies. More recent research in Geographic Information Science and Transportation (GIS-T), government policy, industrial change, international development, environmental sustainability, and social issues have built upon the early foundations and have significantly expanded the research frontiers of transport geography (Goetz et al., 2004; Knowles, 1993; Preston, 2001).
