Ammonia oxide ~+NH_3O~-,the zwitterionic tautomer lz of hydroxylamine,is one of the last very simple molecules to be characterized,and has been discussed since the 19th century.More recently it has attracted the interest of theoreticians,and the absence of direct evidence for its existence is considered"a major challenge to experimentalists working in the field of elusive molecules".
