This paper presents the results of a static testing pro- gram designed to determine the axial stiffens and strength charac- teristics of some typical restrained pipe joints. Pipelines have suf- fered damage and failure form past earthquakes and are vulnerable to seismic motions. A vast majority of the pipeline failures have oc- curred at unrestrained pipe joints due to pull-out, and therefore, the effectiveness of restrained pipe joints needs to be examined and their response to earthquake motion needs to be assessed in order to help mitigate potential damage. This paper also suggests methods to use test results for pipeline network analysis and for risk assessment procedures.
