Splices in wall longitudinal reinforcement above the wall-foundation interface exist in practical projects, and most previous tests of structural walls have routinely used continuous reinforcement extending from the foundation to the top of the specimen, which is consistently different from that of multistory walls in the field. As noted by the authors, the performance of walls incorporating continuous reinforcement in the laboratory may not be representative of walls in the field that use lap splices or mechanical couplers near the wall base. As a matter of fact, very little or rare information on such a research issue can be seen before. Therefore, the research conducted by the authors in the paper is of great importance to the nature of different dealing methods of such reinforcement detailing, which can approach more closely to the nature of such issues on test of structural walls. However, some details, such as experimental program, experimental results, and discussions are not well interpreted, as discussed in this paper.
