Archival arrangement and description

Archival Arrangement and Description is the first in the Society of American Archivists' new Trends in Archives Practice series. The introduction explains the series (and book authors') goal as being threefold: a supplement to existing standard introductory texts in the archives field, such as the Archives Fundamentals series which provide foundational principles and theoretical bases, but focusing more on current best practices; provision of hybrid (hard copy and digital) modular resources that can be used together or separately in either format; the enhancement and enrichment of archival discourse in a 'nimble and easily updatable format'. In keeping with these aims, this publication assumes basic knowledge of archival arrangement and description process - as covered in Kathleen Roe's 2005 Arranging & Describing Archives & Manuscripts, part of the SAA Archival Fundamentals range. It is divided into three sections, 'Standards for Archival Description', 'Processing Digital Records and Manuscripts' and 'Designing Descriptive and Access Systems'. Each section is written by different authors. PDFs of the digital versions are available at $14.99 ($9.99 to SAA members), whilst the PDF of the whole volume costs the same as the print version.
