Online guidance on oral history from Manchester Histories Historical Research Project and East Midlands Oral History Archive

There is a growing trend to include an oral history element in heritage and archive projects. It is a welcome trend: oral history interviews provide a unique, personal insight into the past that can complement written documents or fill gaps in the record. However, there is a danger that such projects will be undertaken without sufficient preparation. Conducting interviews and managing the resulting recordings require knowledge that should not be underestimated. Therefore, any guidance that can help people plan and deliver a successful oral history project is welcome.
