Waiting for direction in the former yugoslav republic of macedonia(FYPOM)

During an embargo against the newly independent state of the Former Yugo- slav Republic of Macedonia(FYPOM), some entrepreneurs made fortunes by smuggling, while other individuals went abroad, where they acquired entrepre- neurial skills pertinent to legitimate busi- ness. Although is was expected that the termination of the embargo would con- tribute to the small business sector, find- ings of this ethnographic study suggest that entrepreneurial efforts actually ap- pear less visible, as legitimate entrepre- neurial skills are largely limited to those who sojourned abroad.
