The collection of articles reviewed here concludes a three-volume series on nature in South Asian traditions by the same editors. It consists of eleven important scholarly studies dedicated to various cultural aspects—both historical and contemporary—of gems, metals, and minerals. These cover a variety of languages and several religions of the Indian subcontinent, namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. The volume is highly welcome to anybody interested in Indian ethnology, philosophy, and medicine, as well as to historians of mineralogy.
