Face to Face is a collection of papers that, as described by its editor, R.O.Lopes, takes cultural exchange between China and other countries as its subject.It is one of two volumes, the second published one year earlier on modern and contemporary Chinese art.This volume contains subjects from the Han (206 BCE - 220 CE) through to the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).In twenty essays, the book spans eighteen centuries through painting, ceramics, textiles, and gardens.
