Islamist Thinkers in the Late Ottoman Empire and Early Turkish Republic

Anglophone scholars of Islamic thought have a longstanding tendency to gravitate toward Arab authors, taking their contributions to represent the whole. The English-language scholarship on modern Islamism has a particularly acute case of this Arabist bent, routinely neglecting thinkers who hail from other parts of the Islamic world, including the region that was once considered its centre: the Ottoman Empire, and particularly its capital, Istanbul.
