Best papers, IPDPS 2010

Three of the papers in this issue were best papers in The IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS) 2010. IPDPS is IEEE's flagship conference in parallel computing in all forms. Historically papers are placed into one of four tracks: algorithms, architecture, applications, and software. Because IPDPS attracts many truly multi-disciplinary papers, the program committee ran an experiment in 2010. Papers belonged to a primary track, but they could receive reviews from two or even three tracks. The program committee selected 127 papers from the 527 submissions. Each track also selected a best paper. Three of the four best papers accepted the invitation to send extended versions of their conference papers to this special issue. All papers were reviewed according to JPDC's rigorous standards.
