Hydrolysis of β,γ-unsaturated aldehyde dimethylhydrazones with copper dichloride: a new synthesis of lavandulol

Lavandulol (1), a constituent of lavender oil,~1 possesses an unusual monoterpene skeleton and is used as an important additive in the perfume industry. This com- pound has also been isolated as a defensive pheromone of the red-lined carrion beetle.~2 Because of its impor- tance, several syntheses of this compound have been reported.
