摘要

Benzo[6]fluoranthene (BbF) is the most carcinogenic of the isomeric benzofluoranthenes. The environmental prevalence of BbF, along with its well-documented car-cinogenicity in mice and rats, makes this compound a potential human health hazard. Recently, several reports have been published which present evidence supporting the involvement of multiple sites of activation for BbF. In particular, the involvement of dihydrodiols (1-3) and phenolic dihydrodiol epoxides (4—7) as proximate and ultimate carcinogenic metabolites of BbF has been postulated. Unfortunately the lack of general synthetic methods for, the preparation of specifically-substituted derivatives of nonalternant PAH has been a hmderance for the evaluation.of such a hypothesis.
