Bromophycoic Acids: Bioactive Natural Products from a Fijian Red Alga Callophycus sp.

摘要

Bioassay-guided fractionation of extracts from anFijian red alga in the genus Callophycus resulted in the isolation ofnfive new compounds of the diterpene-benzoate class. Bromophycoicnacids A−E (1−5) were characterized by NMR and massnspectroscopic analyses and represent two novel carbon skeletons,none with an unusual proposed biosynthesis. These compoundsndisplay a range of activities against human tumor cell lines, malarialnparasites, and bacterial pathogens including low micromolarnsuppression of MRSA and VREF.
