摘要

In this paper, elliptical cored dielectric fiber having two different profile of elliptical cladding layers are proposed for the investigation of dispersion characteristics. Boundary conditions are used to obtain longitudinal field components and characteristic equation in elliptical coordinates. The characteristic equation is solved by using Mathieu functions. Cutoff frequencies and dispersion characteristics for various lower order modes have been calculated and plotted respectively. Further, eccentricity effects on the mode cutoff frequencies are also discussed. Finally, birefringence of the proposed fiber is also calculated.
