A renewed focus on unlocking the mysteries of the Indian Ocean -the prospective International Indian Ocean Expedition 50th Anniversary Initiative (IIOE-2)

The Indian Ocean regional, and associated global, ocean observing community is gathering momentum in planning for a prospective International Indian Ocean Expedition 50th Anniversary Initiative (IIOE-2) 5 decades on from the original IIOE of the 1959-65 period that was run under the sequential leadership of the Scientific Committee on Ocean Research (SCOR) and UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). The framework being considered includes cruises (voyages of discovery) and complementary activities under themes including; specific process studies, capacity building, summer schools, education/ training and outreach.
