An efficient multicast approach in an ATM switching network for multimedia applications

This paper presents routing and multicast algorithms for an ATM switching system constructed with the Benes network, and evaluates the performance of this system using multicast traffic models. The switch can be used for multimedia applications. Unlike most switching networks, in which there is normally one path from a given input port of network to any output port, in the Benes topology there are several alternative paths. This topology is used in this paper to construct a routing network and a copy network Of an ATM switching system. Each network uses shared buffers at its switch elements.
