The intent of this book is to open what Charles Ungerleider, in his foreword, calls a 'cross-border dialogue'. In broad strokes, he compares Canadian and American identity, setting the tone for what follows. The comparative nature of the text is established through its organisation into six parts that juxtapose Canadian and American frameworks; each but the last contains three chapters - the first provides a Canadian perspective, the second an American one and the third offers a dialogue exploring relevant cross-national implications.
