This book is a very promising start to Palgrave's series on minority languages and communities. The author's stated aim calls for a 'much more intensive commitment on the part of universities to the study of language planning on an academic level', although the secondary aims - to 'reverse many inequalities' and 'improve the linguistic context in minority and immigrant language situations' - soon take over and, indeed, the book ends with proposals for revisions of European Union (EU) language policy.
