摘要

There has always been a glaring gap between the 'race relations' and the 'immigration' literature. Inheriting the City is a book that fills that gap with an in-depth look at the second generation in New York City. There are numerous books about race, especially black-white relations; there are also many books on immigration. It is the second generation, however, that forces us to consider where the children of immigrants will fit within colour lines. Since most current American diversity arises from immigrants and their children, this book offers some important insights.
