In recent years, language studies have taken a critical turn, questioning the supposed value-free, objective tenets of language and its social impact. This book is a prime example, closely interrogating the ideological and sociopolitical conditions that shape community practices through language use. As a product of rich ethnographic investigation in different domains of language use, the book highlights the fine-grained connections among language, culture and society.
