摘要

It is shown that knowledge of the frequency-dependent change of phase induced in a (Rayleigh) surface wave propagating over the traction-free surface of a nonuniformly stressed isotropic half space is sufficient to allow complete determination of the applied or residual stress filed. The stress field is assumed to vary only with depth into the half space. Both uniaxial and biaxial nonuniform stresses are considered; in both cases, a contour integral representation is obtained for the applicable stress components.
