摘要

Network activity in Russia has developed with great speed even under conditions of limited capacity of the network infrastructure. This has aroused interest in the behavior of basic indices of computer-network functioning. The speed of data transfer to end-users is one of the most important indices of this kind. This variable signifies the ratio of the quantity of transferred information (in bytes) to the total time of information transfer over all connections during a fixed time interval. Thus, we speak about the average speed of data transfer to end-users during the chosen time interval. Here averaging is carried out not only over the period of time but also over all users who used the network during this period of time. The idea of this variable and its changeability is important for network administrators and network end-users. The latter have an opportunity to correct their network activity according to the network's capacities at the moment. In this work, we shall consider the statistical behavior of the speed of data transfer to network end-users in Russia at the RBnet-Teleglobe channel. This channel provides the majority of Russian science-educative networks with access to the global network Internet. Studying the speed of data transfer by this channel is one of the problems of the monitoring of Russian science-educative networks in terms of Project 3.3.1 of the Interdepartmental program "Creation of a national network of computer telecommunications for science and high school."
