Geoscapes: Exterior and Interior

Over six years ago I started down a path that was new to me so naturally I had no idea what would happen along the way or where I would be when I reached the end. That path was the decision by the Stanford Libraries to submit a joint funding proposal to the Library of Congress under their National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program (NDIIPP). This proposal would be to work jointly with the University of California-Santa Barbara on the issues around long-term preservation of geospatial content. Why UC-Santa Barbara? First, we wanted to partner with them because of their nationally recognized and highly respected work on the Alexandria Digital Library Project and their knowledge about geospatial information learned at the Map and Imagery Lab. Second, and equally as important, was the relationship I had built over the years with Mary Lynette Larsgaard and Larry Carver.
