摘要

A study was conducted to investigate the moderating effect of individual differences in need for cognition (NFC) on the processing of framed messages and source credibility during realistic job previews (n = 200). Results indicate NFC influences the strength of the relationship between framed messages and information presented by high and low credible sources. Specifically, the message framing effect is more salient for low need for cognition (LMFC) subjects than for high need for cognition subjects (HNFC). LNFC subjects also responded more favorably than HNFC subjects to messages presented by expert sources and less favorably to messages presented by non-expert sources. Other findings and implications for recruitment practices and further research are discussed.
