The elastic buckling behavior and elasto-plastic behavior of double-layer lattice structures are investigated by numerical analyses in order to study the effect of the latticed patterns on the behavior. The lattice patterns studied are "square-on-square", "square-on-diagonal", and "diagonal-on-square". The terms refer to member layout in the top and bottom layers, respectively. The relations between the ultimate state and latticed patterns are considered, based on the results of load bearing capacities at the ultimate state. The limit state load has been presented as the index that represents a load bearing capacity at the ultimate state. Consequently, it has been made clear that although the elastic limit load is able to be adequately estimated by the allowable stress design method according to slenderness ratios, the estimation of limit state loads may require post-buckling analyses.
