DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF COOLING TOWER SHELLS AND COLUMNS SINCE THE 1930'S

This paper describes the development of the construction of natural draught cooling tower shells from the 1930 's to the present day. It demonstrates that the basic principles of the tower have not changed significantly in the last 80 years but that equipment used, the design, quality and accuracy of the work and the safety of the operatives involved has improved dramatically.
