Combining Personalised Communications Services with Privacy-Friendly Identity Management

The introduction of individualised interactive communication services poses a serious challenge to the protection of the privacy of the individual end-user. This paper starts with a brief introduction of the concepts of 'personalisation' and 'identity management'. It continues with a critical analysis of identity management solutions such as Microsoft Passport and the Liberty Alliance specifications and concludes with a presentation of the main European R&D initiatives in this area, in particular the PRIME project.
