摘要

Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) can adaptively separate the intrinsic oscillatory modes of signals into several subbands. Although the masking signal technique can improve the EMD performance, its working mechanism still remains obscure. We consider the upper and lower envelopes of signals as the signals reconstructed from the extrema samples. Then, we analyze the working mechanism of the masking signal technique. The theoretical analysis of the masking signal technique can make toward a better understanding of the nature of the EMD method.
