Outage Probability Analysis of Multiple-access Relay Channel with Network Coding and Relay Selection

The Multiple-access Relay Channel (MARC) has been considered as a promising technique in next generation wireless communication networks. In this work, we study a Network Coding based Multiaccess Relay Channel (NC-MARC) where a decode-and-forward relaying and a static XOR network coding are considered for the one-way relaying system. The system consists of two transmitters communicating with a destination with the help of two half-duplex relays. We aim at single-relay selection between these relays and analyze the outage performance for the three relay selection modes which have different properties but require different Channel Quality Information (CQI) for the source-to-relay links and the relay-to-destination links. The analysis and computer simulation show that the third near optimal selection mode can offer substantial gain over the first two selection modes although the latter modes only require CQI for the source-to-relay links. The outage probability comparisons are illustrated through detailed examples.
