Syllabus Design and Teaching Methodology in a Japanese University Sociolinguistics Course

摘要

This paper looks at issues of syllabus design and teaching methodology in an EFL sociolinguistics course. It sets out the aims for one such course in a Japanese university, and describes a hybrid teach­ing methodology created to meet those aims. This hybrid approach combines traditional lecture-style teacher transmission with student-centered activities. The syllabus for the course is described using specific thematic examples of course content, and the effectiveness of the course as a whole is analyzed with the help of student feedback.
