Oscillation of a self-excited flip-flop flow, which exhibits multiple, uniform-flow rate jet streams, can be produced in a diamond-shaped cylinder bundle. This study concerns a fluid flowing through a duct stacked with a five-storied diamond-shaped cylinder bundle. Through utilization of the ramming effect, micro- and nano-sized bubbles are generated by supplying air through a pair of tiny holes drilled at each edge area in the narrowest cross section connecting the converging- and dtverging-flow regions which are formed by two adjacent diamond-shaped cylinders. Individual nano-sized bubbles as small as 500 nm in the efflux can be visualized and recorded. The number versus diameter distribution is determined using a Multisizer III. Flow rates are varied to determine the effect of through-flow, Reynolds number, on the amount of nano-bubbles generated. The study has important applications in electronics industry as well as in biomedical technology.
