Preface

It is our great pleasure to introduce this special section, a selection of papers from the First International Symposium on Data, Privacy and E-Commerce (ISDPE 2007). ISDPE07 is an international conference in technical cooperation with IEEE covering the research of data processing, data privacy, and electronic commerce. It attracted more than 500 submissions. Among the 100 regular papers accepted on the conference proceeding, ten of them were invited to be extended and submitted to Journal of Computer Science and Technology (JCST). The extension is at least one third of the entire paper. After the second review process to the extended version arranged by conference committee and the final review process by JCST, seven papers were accepted to appear here.rnThe paper "Algebraic Construction for Zero-Knowledge Sets" presents a novel construction of zero knowledge set/database. Zero knowledge set tends to keep it secret to the size of the set committed as well as others. This cryptographic primary has potential abroad applications in private databases. Their scheme in the paper is the first one to zero knowledge set that does not construct with Merkle tree as an under frame as currently do in the literatures. Its algebraic feature makes it a succinct and easily updatable scheme. A rigorous proof to the soundness and zero-knowledgeness of the construction is given.
