Subsolidus phase relationships in the systems Ln-Si-Al-O-N where Ln = Nd and Sm have been determined. Forty-four compatibility tetrahedra were established in the region Ln_2O_3-Si_3N_4-AlN-Al_2O_3. Within this region, LnAlO_3 and M′-phase (Ln_2Si_(3-x)Al_xO_(3+x)N_(4-x)) are the only two important compounds which have tie lines joined to β-sialon and AlN poly-typoid phases. α-Sialon coexists with the M′ phase.
