Simulations in Wireless Applications Using RF Analytical and Modeling Computational Packages in EET Programs

The high level of competition in technological developments force design engineers to work within more stringent time constraints while producing efficient and optimum designs. To remain competitive, industry needs efficient and reliable analytical and modeling tools. This competition is no less acute in the wireless industry, which has experienced rapid growth in recent years. Two of the programs currently used by design engineers for efficient simulation and analysis of radio frequency (RF) components and circuits are the Numerical Electromagnetic Code Method of Moments series and Ansoft Serenade 7.5. PSpice can also be used, although it is not designed primarily for electromagnetic applications. Engineering technology graduates entering the wireless industry should have practical experience with the electromagnetic programs used in this field. Their training should emphasize critical thinking and practical skills needed to solve electromagnetic problems. This paper examines several electromagnetic computational packages suitable for use in electrical and electronic technology (EET) programs.
