摘要

The exact earthquake forces that a structure will be exposed to during its life time can not be known. For the sake of safety, designing structures to withstand earthquake forces according to current codes is based on empirical formulas to predict inertia forces as equivalent static ones acting on the structure. A comparison between nonlinear dynamic analysis and code formula is carried out. The research proposes a formula to use in the equivalent static load method. The formula produces lateral loads close to the actual earthquake loads and has a better definition of the building ductility.
