Matsushita Factory in Malaysia Pushes R&D, Internal Production

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. established Matsushita Audio Video (M) Sdn. Bhd. in 1990 in Johor, Malaysia, as the production base for general audio units and tabletop VCRs. The products made there are shipped to markets all over the world. In FY2001, Matsushita's Malaysian factory produced three million audio units and 1.8 million VCRs. In terms of sales turnover, audio units represent 67 percent of the total revenue and VCRs represent 33 percent. The main audio products are CD radiocas-sette recorders, microcomponent stereo units and receivers. Most of these products are shipped to Europe, North America and elsewhere in Asia. In FY2001, shipments to the Japanese market increased. Meanwhile, the company's tabletop VCRs are shipped to Central and South America, Russia and Asia.
