Sharp Embraces Viewcam Strategy for Dual-Purpose Still, Video Camcorders

At the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show (2002 CES), Sharp Corp. introduced three Viewcam-style digital camcorders. These three Digital Viewcam models, which the company now markets around the world, represents a shift back to Viewcam products after a year in which the company added shooting-style camcorders to its product lineup. Sharp intends to promote the advantages of Viewcam-style products while monitoring market trends. The company hopes to increase its market share of camcorders mainly by increasing sales of Viewcam-style products, says Rikiya Oguma, Vice President and Division Deputy General Manager, Recording Systems Division, Audio-Visual Systems Group at Sharp. He is in charge of product planning and sales strategies for camcorders.
