Hard Disc Recorders Advance in A/V Field As Broadband Grows

Broadband services are becoming more commonplace, bringing into homes large volumes of audio-video (A/V) content. Such broadband services include asymetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) services, CATV Internet services and digital broadcast satellite services carrying HDTV broadcasts and data broadcasts. In Japan, broadband services are available only in certain areas, mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. However, around 2005, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) optical fiber cable networks should be in place in all subscriber line networks leading to Japanese households. The spread of broadband services and digital broadcasts make it possible to incorporate high volumes of music and image data onto personal computers and home servers. Users will record and store large amounts of A/V data, such as movies and music, for viewing or listening at their convenience on mobile equipment and on high-quality A/V equipment for especially good sound and picture reproduction. Thus, broadband services and data broadcasts should further expand the world of home entertainment.
