As 2002 begins, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. rolls out full-scale sales of its Sanyo brand digital cameras outside Japan. This will represent an important step for Sanyo, which makes more digital cameras than any other manufacturer but sells 90 percent of its products under OEM deals with other camera makers. Sanyo's digital camera production in the first six months of FY2001 reached 2.4 million units with sales of ¥63.42 billion, a 26.3 percent increase over the same period of FY2000. For the latter half of FY2001, the company expects to produce 3 million units, a 25 percent increase over production during the same period of FY2000. Over FY2001 as a whole, the company anticipates sales of over ¥140 billion, an increase of over 40 percent from FY2000. The company sees an urgent need to increase the production share of Sanyo brand products, which now represent less than 10 percent of the company's digital camera production.
