At Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc., business-use closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras that employ CCDs are classified into two major business groups. In one group are so-called "machine vision" cameras in the industrial and measurement fields. In the other group are cameras for surveillance, especially for security and monitoring. These two business groups form the foundation of Hitachi Kokusai's efforts to expand business in the CCTV field. For markets outside Japan, the company has so far sold mainly individual CCTV cameras and has supplied machine vision cameras especially for production related to semiconductors. Recently, the company has been working to strengthen its position in the area of monitoring cameras. The company this year expects to focus on sales of network-style monitoring camera systems outside Japan. JEI interviewed Toshio Teramoto, General Manager, Camera System Marketing & Sales Promotion Group, Camera System Center, Video System Division. He is in charge of sales of camera systems for business use at the company.
