The market related to home video recording is shifting rapidly from VHS decks to DVD recorders. The popularity of DVD recorders started to take off on a full scale in 2002 and has risen rapidly. The appeal of these recorders is based on how easy they are to use and the high resolutions of the images they produce. Demand is now strong both for relatively simple DVD recorders without complex functions and sophisticated recorders that contain hard disc drives and accommodate a variety of editing functions. The market is expanding especially rapidly for recorders with hard disc drives, and the rates of growth in demand for simple recorders, recorders with hard disc drives and D-VHS recorders are each outstripping earlier expectations. Meanwhile, digital video recorders are increasingly accommodating functions related to still-picture recording media, such as memory cards. Thus recorders are evolving into home "image video servers."
