FPD TV Makers Anticipate Wave of HDTV Demand in Europe

High-definition TV (HDTV) has not caught on in Europe like it has in Japan and the United States. That may soon change with a wave of replacement demand that could surge late this year and into 2006. At the 2005 Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA 2005) in Berlin in September, manufacturers showcased HDTVs and related technologies. Manufacturers of LCD and plasma display panel (PDP) TVs demonstrated in their exhibits how they compete not only in the size and price of flat-panel products, but in the quality of the HD images those products deliver. Furthermore, exhibitors showed how products work with advanced large-capacity optical discs, memory cards, HD camcorders and other related products. The exhibits underscored the rising expectations among manufacturers that the future of TV in Europe is HDTV.
