Original Engine Speeds Up Panasonic's DVD Recorders

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) has introduced to markets worldwide its 2005 line of DIGA DVD recorders. The most outstanding features of the new models are speedy operation and superb quality images with horizontal resolution of 500 lines in the long play (LP) mode, which can be credited to the adoption of Panasonic's original new image processing circuit, the DIGA Engine 2. All models are equipped with DIGA Engine 2, which features a newly developed virtual, multiple encoder that draws on the results of virtual encoding under varying conditions, to select the best approach for optimum image quality. Normally, DIGA Engine selects encoding condition in accordance with the characteristics of image. Therefore, in the LP mode, horizontal resolution is 250 lines. With the virtual multi encoder, however, DIGA Engine 2 provides a horizontal resolution of 500 lines in the LP mode, equivalent to that of the standard play (SP) mode. This means double the recoding hour of images with the SP-mode-quality.
