Seeing Shift to Discs, Hitachi Extends Lineup of DVD CAMs

Five years after Hitachi, Ltd. introduced its first DVD camcorder, the company continues to add to its lineup more models with 8cm DVD RAMs as recording media. "I hope DVD camcorders catch on in 2005," said Norio Ogimoto, General Manager, Storage Media System Operation, Digital Media Division of Hitachi. Hitachi led the industry in bringing out a DVD-RAM-format camcorder in September 2000. That model could record two hours of video on an 8cm DVD-RAM disc. In 2004, Sony followed suit. Hitachi in 2003 released a shooting-style camcorder that included a viewfinder and a monitor display. This model was about the size of a digital camera and about half the size of a conventional camcorder.
