With sales of its latest rear projection TVs going strong in the United States, Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC) aims to double its monthly production to 20,000 units or more in FY2005. Meanwhile, sales overall for JVC's TV business has also been robust. JVC reports that sales in its TV business in the first half of FY2004 grew 30 percent on an unconsolidated basis and more than 20 percent on a consolidated basis, compared with the first half of FY2003. Consolidated financial results indicate that sales of plasma display panel (PDP) TVs doubled and those of LCD TVs increased sevenfold. In addition, those of rear-projection TVs grew 60 percent. JVC attributes increasing demand in part to promotions related to the UEFA Euro 2004 soccer championship, for which JVC was an official partner, and the Athens 2004 Olympics in August.
